bringing the street inside

This is the time where the designs in our heads, the designs that have been floating around, developing are starting to come to life. Here are some really awesome shop pics that have helped me explore the idea about what is RETRO... what is STREET and how these fall under my philosophy of re-defining order... mmm....mmm (I will tell you a secret tho - i was i had the cash flow to buy these clothes!)
the first 3 photos are interior shots of The Street in Greenside, Joburg

Here is a fun, interactive wallpaper... really awesome!

This ceiling detail of the speakers is found in a little shop that i love in Gardens, Cape Town called Poppa Trunks... great idea to do something similar within my music studio ?? I think so!

Amazing sculptures that look like they are in motion

At first glance these objects look like they are in motion, almost like every object is falling down, especially the “strawberry blanket”. In reality they are actually natural materials, like feathers, fruits and flowers, attached to nylon threads. Sculptor Claire Morgan from Belfast is the creator of this magnificent art work.

The picture came to life :)

So as you are aware of - my computer skills regarding 3D imagery isnt fantastic and is an area od life where I spent a lot of time and not much success. Well a week's worth of trying my best and I made a 3D animation, and yes - proud of myself! luckily my expo stand's material selection was mainly concrete and timber, which enabled the rendering process to be a "realistic timeframe". I started off with 260 frames, rendering in 10 minutes. The speed was great and I suppose the quality was average. I made some adjustments, added in posters and ended up with 580 frames which was rendered in roughly 45 mins - 1 hour. Compared to what my friend handed in last year and what my other class mates subnitted this year - i am sure to get a pass. HOLD THUMBS!

THINGS LEARNT: -

choose materails clearfully, make them if you have to. Translucent materials take for ever to render.
Choose lighting and light sources - wisely! (still a working progress)

Here are my Still Frames: -

Furturestic kicthen counters

I am focusing on my reception area and counter, and feel that it is important that the reception / entrance sets the 'mood' for the interior space. Counter design can always seem boring - the same old, same old - well found some interesting designs to use for inspiration to push the boundaries!

its the final count down!

Wow we have less than a month left of the semester and my brain is
RINGING with all the work that still needs to be resolved and done! I had a final conceptual crit last week - which went well, expect i drew up the 3D spaces in sketchup - which lost the material and lighting quality. So will have to draw up in 3D CAD. I'm not sure if I will have enough time to export into 3D MAX...computer programmes. computer programmes. what happened to the good old days of hand drawn sketches which show the emotion and quality of the space?! mmm... I will have to find a way to combine the two together. I am working on my 3D MAX expo stand Animation at the moment - so far its tricky, but managing.

Finally back online! Our internet provider's c-cable was under 'maintainace' for a week, which left me internetless! yes and there is a syndrome for that - internetlessness! terrible! let me explain the problems ive experienced with internetlessness, i was unable to downlaod 3D max components for our submission on Wednesday. So after working 2 days on the 3D image, making materials and putting in lights, i went on another computer so that i could get the components - well the trouble started! I can only get 2009 3D Max, my friend has 2010 and will not let you downsave to 2009. so 2 days of hard work went goodbye as i lost all the materials and components. so 6 hours before handin, i was back on my laptop trying to find, make and create new materials and change the lights! oh dear oh dear - i had another BAD submission and still cant believe that the computer gods have not cut me any slack with technology and computers. so after showing that class what i handed in for 3D CAD and all haveing a good laugh - ive decided to share my pain and display my 3D Max on the post - so for those u 'ace' computers - please be my fairy godmother (or father) and help me improve!!!
this is a sad, very sad situation!!! I NEED HELP...
