budget - what?

Today was an interesting day of accepting: accepting to getting lost in industrial / factory areas and freeways and accepting that salesmen love quoting the highest price with a fat smiles on they faces, knowing that you have no choice but to accept.

for two weeks up to now, I have been phoning around, shopping for the best prices, going to factories, seeing production, meeting with specialists, all to ensure i fully understand how to design and what to spec. Today was a confirmation day, so that all materials can be handled over to my dearly trusted furniture maker. NO.

I was fooled by one shop that I needed to purchase their highly specialized industrial spray paint, which was half the price of the shop that i was recommended to go to. Confusing?? So my mind thought that there had to be a difference between the two specifications and seeing that shop a (the cheaper supplier) was a bit confused by the finish and couldn't show me a sample, my gut told me to go with shop b (the recommended specialists). So i phoned in and placed my order with the lady that i dealt with that morning. 5 minutes later, i was told that i needed a primer. "OK, I said, include the primmer and what is the total price, VAT inclusive?", the long pause said it all!!! double than expected price! shop A quoted me 1/4 the price that shop B quoted. I felt so sick. I agreed. hung up the phone. and sat down. WOW.

Budget BLOWN.

then i also decided to go with the stainless steel supports for aesthetic reasons for the same design. three times the price than what was quoted with mild steel. I agreed. hung up the phone and sat down.

Budget BLOWN.

well at least i will be having a high spec chair for a once off high end chair... so that makes me a designer i guess. blowing the budget for beauty.
