getting tangled

time seems to be getting less and less, like a trogen virus is eating away at the number of hours in the day! so... in so little time, with so much still to do, I find it has a strangling effect on me... hence "getting tangled" decisions - decisions - specifications need to be finalized! But as any designer would say... "one can never completely solve a design idea, there will always be something more to add, change and edit.

Here was the proposed conceptual design that i presented mid-year... not much has changed from layout and circulation... only the finer details and material application. since June, i have transform the 7th floor, the attic, into a Roof Top terrace garden, hence allowing even sunlight in through the multi-volume atrium and creating an interaction with the skyline within the city center.

Four Months left... how does it feel?

Good morning! today is the last "first day back" at varsity and wow... it does feel good. Five years later and four months left and i hope that time flies because I have big plans for next year... big as in daa daa daa daaaa.... "FREE TIME" and time to live again, sleep again and i also suppose be human again?! Its is a surreal feeling. Well four months left and still a bit to do...
- finalize the design
- component design
- technical drawings
- 3D walk through
- 3D renderings
- and finalise the treatise document

June Portfolio

Its that mid-year break, where normally everyone sighs from relief and puts their feet up and chills out, well not this June. Its 2010 Soccer World Cup and WOW but a busy and festive time it has been here in South Africa and I for one am very proud of South Africa, our people and our team! So whilst touring around my country, i have been blown away by inspiration ive found on very street corner. I suppose my jaw-dropping moments were mainly experienced in Cape Town. The old historic buildings, the tiny coffee shops and vibrant design!!! I felt like I was back in Europe waling around in the pouring rain on the high streets - so as soon as photos are sent to me - ill post them up

4 Walls and a light = Room?

Here is my very first attempt with rendering 3D MAX, our lighting TUT showing differetne light fixtures and their effects. Natrual daylight casting through the window was a bit tricky, need to watch out on the shadows, or lask thereof.

Govan Mabeki Avenue - white model

Here are some of my stills from my white model 3D max rendering.

cRuNcH TIME

Its four days before our portfolio exam and things are starting to become a reality. Dry Run was a bit unprepared, but thank goodness for that as I was able to see for the first time how far i was and what still needed to be done. We submitted our computer portfolio yesterday. The 3D max rendering took over 30 hours over 3 and 4 computers. I wasn't expecting this as my first attempt on the Expo stand only need just under a hour to process and render. So having no materials - it was a White block model, and the same amount and settings for natural light up, I set about to render the 1st path. mm.... oh wow, 1 path was going to take 47 hours and I still had another two more paths to include foe my movie. So i dd what I thought was best, removed the paths and cameras, simplified the news paths, deleted frames and took out a light. 31 hours for 1 path - I had to take it?! There was so much time wastered trying to master an amazing animation and walkthroughs but at the end of the day, your client simply wants to see the building. luckily, I have amazing friends you lent me their computers and we quickly split the rendering process. so 31 hours with 250 - frames ... a bit disappointing as it was a bit fast, but none the less, i know how to render, and now i know how to make a animation. As the concept with this thesis is a PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL with an edgy street like feel, i tried to achieve this through the graphics and animation.
